God First – Prosperity Second

2Ch 25:5 As long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.

Mat 6:33 Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things will be added to you. 2Ch 25:5 As long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper. Pro 28:13 He who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Prosperity cannot save you: 1Ti 6:17-19 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Pro 11:4 Riches won’t help on the day of judgment.

Mar 8:36 For what does it profit someone to gain the whole world and lose their soul?

God loves you!

Believe Prosperity is God’s Will

First of all, God is very wealthy! He created the heaven and the earth (Gen 1:1; Psa 89:11). If it was a sin to be rich, God would be poor.

In God’s dwelling place in heaven He owns:

  • A city of pure gold with streets of gold (Rev 21:18; 21;21).
  • Gates of pearl (Rev 21:21).
  • Numerous precious stones (Rev 21:19-20).
  • Many mansions (Joh 14:2).
  • Rivers (Rev 22:1).
  • Trees (Rev 2:7; 22:1-3).
  • Fountains (Rev 17:17).
  • And many, many other things.

On the earth that God created He owns:

  • The earth & everything in it (1Co 10:26; Job 41:11).
  • All the silver & gold (Hag 2:8).
  • Every animal & the cattle on a thousand hills (Psa 50:10).

Prosperity is defined as: doing well; successful; flourishing; rich, succeeding fully or in accordance with one’s desires; a state of health, well-being, happiness, and financial success.

2Co 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

God ‘s Blessing Prospers You

Poverty is no mark of holiness or proof that one is a true Christian. Pro 10:22 The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich and He adds no sorrow with it.

Deu 8:18 Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant. Pro 10:22 The blessing of the Lord brings wealth. Psa 35:27 Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. 1Ch 22:11  The Lord be with you and prosper you. Pro 15:6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure.

3Jo 1:2 Friend, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Psa 112:3 The upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever.

God loves you!

Think on and Obey God’s Word

Jos 1:8 This Book of the Law will not depart from your mouth, but you will meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.

Pray for prosperity

Psa 118:25 Save now, I pray O Lord; send now prosperity. Rom 10:12  The same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him.

Have faith in God, His promises, and His power to prosper you

2Ch 20:20 Believe in the Lord your God and you will be established; believe His prophets, and you will prosper.

Be patient

Psa 37:7 Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way.

Work hard

Pro 10:4 Lazy hands make a man poor but diligent hands bring wealth. Pro 14:23 In all labor there is profit but idle talk leads only to poverty. Psa 128:2 You will eat the fruit of your labor and blessings and prosperity will be yours.

Be prepared for opposition

Isa 54:15+17 Whoever attacks you will surrender to you. No weapon formed against you will prosper, every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn.

Psa 66:12 We went through fire and through water but You brought us out into a wealthy place.

Obey God

Job 36:11 If they obey and serve Him, they will spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasures. Deu 29:9 Keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do. 1Ki 2:3  Walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies….that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn.

Be a generous giver

Pro 11:25 A generous man will prosper and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Pro 22:9 A generous man will himself be blessed for he shares his food with the poor.

Luk 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.

Honor God with you wealth

Pro 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty.

Support your church financially

Mal 3:10-12 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit, says the Lord Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed.

2Co 9:6-12 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

Pro 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Practice humility

Pro 22:4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life.

Obey the “Golden Rule”

Luk 6:35 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Be content regardless of circumstances

Phi 4:11-13 I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

1Ti 6:6 Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Be passionate in all that you do

Eph 6:5-8 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. With good will doing service as to the Lord and not to men: Knowing that whatever good thing any man does, the same will he receive of the Lord.

Examples of Prosperity

Abraham

Gen 13:2 Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. 24:1 The Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.

Abraham’s servant said of his master: Gen 24:35 The Lord has blessed my master greatly; and he has become great: and he has given him flocks, herds, silver, gold, menservants, maidservants, camels, and asses.

Joseph

As Potiphar’s servant: Gen 39:2-3 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

While in prison: Gen 39:21+23 The Lord was with Joseph and shewed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him and that which he did the Lord made it to prosper.

Israel

Deu 29:9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

Psa 105:37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble (sickly) person among their tribes.

Exo 12:36 The Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians. 

Pro 13:22 The wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Joshua

Jos 1:7-8 Be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.

David

1Ch 29:28 David died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor: and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

David told us how to prosper: 

  • Don’t associate with sinners (Psa 1:1)
  • Don’t learn the ways of sinners (v2)
  • Don’t be scornful (despise;  look down on others) (v1)
  • Delight in God’s Word (v2)
  • Think on God’s Word day and night (v2)
  • Pray for peace (Psalm 122:6-7)
  • Exalt or magnify God (Psalm 35:27)

Solomon

1Ch 29:23 Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and prospered.

2Ch 1:12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted to you; and I will give you riches, wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before you, neither will any after you have the like.

2Ch 9:22 King Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

Queen of Sheba said of Solomon: 1Ki 10:7 Your wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which I heard.

Nehemiah

Neh 1:11 Prosper I pray thee, your servant, this day. Neh 2:20 The God of heaven, He will prosper us.

Jehoshaphat

2Ch 17:3-5 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David. But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel. Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance.

Uzziah

2Ch 26:3-5 Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did.  And he sought God….and as long as he sought the Lord God made him to prosper.

Hezekiah

2Ch 32:27-29 Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he made himself treasuries for silver, gold,  precious stones, spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels; Storehouses also for the increase of corn, wine, oil; stalls for all manner of beasts, and pens for flocks.  For God had given him substance very much.

2Ki 18:7 The Lord was with him and he prospered wherever he went.

2Ch 31:21 In every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart and prospered.

Job

Before his time of trial: Job 1:3+10 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. (satan sai to God) Have You not made an hedge about him, about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?  You have blessed the work of his hands and his substance is increased in the land.

After the time of his trial Job said to God: Job 1:2+10 I know that You can do everything and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning.

Daniel

Dan 6:28 So Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Messiah

Jer 23:5-6 Behold, the days come, says the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King will reign and prosper, and will execute judgment and justice in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely: and this is His Name whereby He will be called the Lord our righteousness.

Isa 53:10  The pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.

Blessings of Prosperity

Summary:

  • Give God your very best.
  • Pray for God to prosper you in your health and wealth.
  • Work hard at everything you do.
  • Don’t ever give up (Luk 18:1).

Psa 122:7 Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.

1Ch 29:12 Both riches and honor come from You, and you reign over all; and in your hand is power and might; and in your hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

Psa 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Psa 112:1+3 Blessed is the man that fears the Lord, that delights greatly in his commandments.Wealth and riches shall be in his house.

The more health and wealth you possess the more you can do for Jesus!
